Sam & Sara’s Wedding * 01.20.12 * Palos Verde Beach

This was my first solo-wedding. Totally nerve-wrecking but I manged to pull it off! IF it wasn’t for Sara & Sam – who worked with me on everything and had total confidence and faith in my abilities – it would have been a total disaster. Believe it or not, I even had a nightmare the day before about everything going wrong. But it was definitely God’s grace that spared me from my needless worries.

So… this was a Friday morning-afternoon wedding and no Andrew there… a great challenge indeed. He is and has always been the definite brains of lighting and such. With the plans, the weather, the lighting and the events all unknown, stress definitely built up more. During the whole day, I definitely felt the emptiness of not having him there as support. Especially with an afternoon, 10-12pm wedding – sun high up and almost overhead – I really didn’t know what to do. I was heading to an open beach with little or no shade. For most photographers, without strong lighting equipment, the direction of sunlight during these hours would usually drive them indoors or under a tree. And here was I, getting ready for a mid-day beach wedding. If one didn’t know what to do, it would be terrifying. I know it sounds extreme but that’s definitely how I felt.

But as I said in the beginning, I was totally spared. That morning, when I woke up, I quickly looked up the weather hoping to find something encouraging. I was sooo happy to find that the forecast was cloudy. Seeing that and double checking outside… I wanted to rejoice so much! I prayed that the clouds would stay all through the journey from Sara & Sam’s to the wedding location. Amazingly.. it did!!

Everything turned out great… at least for doing a solo wedding. 🙂 It was definitely an experience to remember and I definitely thank Sara & Sam for making it great and allowing me to be such a big part of such a special event!

Hopefully you’ll enjoy the pictures!!
